Pointus ("the Application") is a desktop utility designed to enhance and customize the visual presentation and behavior of your operating system's mouse pointer. Respecting your privacy is a core principle of how this Application is built.
This Privacy Policy explains how Pointus handles data, including the use of anonymous telemetry to maintain and improve application performance.
2. Anonymous telemetry & quality of service
Pointus collects minimal, anonymous usage telemetry via Google Analytics strictly to monitor application performance, ensure stability, and improve the overall quality of service.
- Usage data: Anonymous operational metrics (such as aggregate session data and general performance indicators) paired with a randomly generated, non-identifying installation identifier.
- Strict non-collection: Pointus never collects personal identifiable information (PII) like your name, email address, IP address, or location. The application never records, logs, or transmits your keystrokes, mouse clicks, or screen contents across other applications and websites.
3. User control & opt-out
Telemetry collection is optional. You can disable usage data sharing at any time directly within the application:
- Open Pointus settings.
- Uncheck "Share anonymous usage statistics".
Once disabled, Pointus immediately stops transmitting operational metrics to Google Analytics.
4. Pro purchases & license management
If you choose to purchase or upgrade to Pointus Pro, transaction and license data are processed strictly for fulfillment and activation:
- Payment processing: Financial transactions are processed directly by our third-party payment partner, Stripe. Pointus and 253°Below never collect, process, or store your credit card numbers or financial credentials. Stripe processes your data according to their own Privacy Policy.
- License records: Following a successful transaction, we securely record your purchase confirmation, email address, and generated serial number in Google Firebase. This data is retained solely to issue your license key, verify activations, and assist you with license recovery if needed.
- Zero behavioral linkage: Your license record and email address are strictly decoupled from in-app operations. They are never tied to telemetry data, application usage patterns, or any local desktop activity.
5. Third-party services
Pointus relies on selected third-party services to deliver application functionality, license management, and analytics:
- Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC): Measures anonymous stability and usage metrics if telemetry is enabled.
- Stripe (Stripe, Inc.): Securely processes payments for Pro licenses.
- Google Firebase (Google LLC): Securely stores license keys and associated customer email addresses for verification and recovery purposes.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal or operational data with any other third parties.
6. Children’s privacy
Pointus does not collect personal information from general use. Our paid license purchases are intended only for users who are legally able to enter into commercial transactions (aged 16 or older, or with parental consent).
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If an email address belonging to a minor was submitted during a purchase without parental authorization, please contact us at info+pointus@253below.com to have it removed.
7. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Application or legal requirements. Updates will be indicated by a revised "Effective Date" at the top of this page.
